Greg Kurstin extends global publishing agreement with EMI Music Publishing
Santa Monica, 11 May 2010 – EMI Music Publishing, the world’s leading publisher of popular music, has reached a deal to extend its relationship with songwriter, producer and musician Greg Kurstin, it was announced today.
Kurstin is one half of The Bird & The Bee, as well as a songwriter for artists including Lily Allen, Natasha Bedingfield, The Flaming Lips, Kesha, Little Boots, Kylie Minogue, Sia and Donna Summer. He was nominated for a Grammy as Producer of the Year earlier this year, for his work on Lily Allen’s ‘It’s Not Me, It’s You’ and The Bird & The Bee’s second album ‘Ray Guns Are Not Just the Future’.
The Bird & The Bee’s eponymous debut album was released on Blue Note Records in January 2007, with ‘Ray Guns Are Not Just the Future’ coming out last year. The band’s latest release “Interpreting the Masters Volume 1: A Tribute to Daryl Hall and John Oates” features covers of classic Hall & Oates records, as well the self-penned track “Heard It On The Radio”.
The new long-term co-publishing deal will see EMI represent his existing catalog and new material on a worldwide basis. He is currently working on a number of projects for new and established artists including 3Oh!3, Sky Ferreira, Mike Posner, Ximena, KT Tunstall, Gabriella Cilmi, James Blunt, Neon Hitch, and Josiah Bell. Kurstin, who first signed with EMI Music Publishing in 2004, will be A&R’d by Senior Director of Creative Amanda Berman.
Greg Kurstin said: “I'm so happy to be continuing our relationship. EMI Music Publishing has been so supportive of me over the years.”
EMI Music Publishing President of North American Creative Jon Platt commented: “Greg has an amazing ear for what makes a hit record. Whether he’s working as a songwriter for other artists, as a producer, or as a musician on his own material, he’s able to create music that connects with fans everywhere. He keeps getting better and better, and it’s a privilege to be able to continue our relationship with him.”
